Dorado is a calm town located in the northmost part of the small, tropical island of Puerto Rico. A place known as "La Ciudad Ejemplar" for being a calm and beautifully tropical paradise. If you already think this sounds amazing then just you wait! Dorado is a town located in the wealthier part of Puerto Rico, which means, the buildings and scenery there are better preserved, there are more fancy shops and resorts, and a huge variety of things to do!
Things to do
Dorado is a touristic center with many resorts, prestigious hotels, festivals, and events! One of the most highly regarded hotels in the area is the Embassy Suites Dorado del Mar Beach & Golf Resort Hotel. Dorado is also home to many festivals, one of the most popular ones are the Fiestas Patronales de San Antonio de Padua, which occurs during the month of June. This festival celebrates their patron saint with activities such as dances, food, parades and religious processions.
Of course, the fun doesn't end there. If you fancy an afternoon of water-related activities, well you're in luck! After all, Dorado is located on the northern coast of Puerto Rico, which means there will always be an opportunity to go to the beach. In this town you can do anything from organized spotfishing, scuba and snorkeling to spontaneous kayaking trips! And if you feel like doing a bit of tropical adventuring, there are even more things available to you!
I remember when I went with my dad to see a gigantic satellite dish, which was once used to try to receive signals from outer space in an attempt to better understand our universe! I also remember all the times we toured the abundant amount of beaches on horseback, or the time we rented a jeep to explore the long, dangerous dirt paths, which cut through the vast jungle forest.
If you are wondering why we did this then let me tell you a little secret. During the wars, Puerto Rico was used to test military equipment, do firing practice for pilots, and many more things which are, for the most part, a secret to the general public. For this reason, Puerto Rico is home to an insane number of underground bomb shelters and bunkers, all of them still standing, and still hidden to this day. Although the locals will be able tell you where some of the are, most of them have yet to be found.
So there it is. Travel to Dorado, or any other part of Puerto Rico for that matter. And you can spend your trip doing anything from kayaking through a bioluminescent lake, to driving through rough jungle terrain, searching for abandoned bomb shelters or bunkers.
